Vermont Looks to Legalize Sports Betting

An estimated 50.4 million dollars were bet on the Super Bowl this year across 33 states.  Right now, Vermont is not one of those states participating in sports wagering.  If Vermonters wanted to bet on the Superbowl through sportsbooks Sunday they had to travel outside the state.

Ingrid is a five year old German shepherd at Riverside Rescue in Lunenburg, Vermont. She came to the shelter on December 24 last year and is now looking for a new home.

Vermont state senator results 2022

Vermont- Democrat Peter Welch has been announced as the new Vermont state senator. Welch won with a 67.2% vote beating republican candidate Gerlad Malloy.

Vermont Election results 2022

VERMONT - The results for the 2022 election are in. The majority of winners are democrats with only one winner being republican. The results are as follows:

Proposal 5 passes

Vermont- Reproductive rights will now be written into the state constitution to protect and prevent future restrictions on reproductive care. This comes after proposal 5 was passed with a 76% to 24% vote.

Proposal 2 passed

Vermont- The results are in, proposal 2 has been passed. What this means for Vermont is that the state constitution will be amended to prohibit slavery in any form.

Lieutenant Governor results

Vermont- The results of the 2022 Lieutenant governor's race are in. Progressive democrat David Zuckerman has been announced as the winner with 149,075 votes. After running against republican Joe Bennning, and green mountain candidate Ian G. Diamondstone, it has been a close run.

Clean Water Vermont

VERMONT- The state of Vermont is looking for the public's opinion on a 50.6 million dollar clean water budget. The goal is to clean up polluted streams, lakes and wetlands through the 2024 fiscal year.

VERMONT - Finding affordable housing in the state of Vermont has been tricky, and Governor Scott has a plan to try and address it.

Killington motel deaths

VERMONT- Two deaths occurred at the Killington motel this past saturday.


56 year old Darlene Parker and 53 year old Thomas doge were found unresponsive in their hotel room and pronounced dead by police.Police say they found evidence in the room that led them to believe it was an overdose. The deaths are not considered suspicious at this time. 

Just hours before, they were called to a neighboring room for another overdose.

At this time police do not believe the deaths are related.

 


 

Will Vermont be All-EV by 2035?

VERMONT - California announced in early September that it plans to have all Electic Vehicles (EV's) by 2035. Vermont has tended to lean towards following California's lead on climate change issues.

VERMONT-- Commuting in Vermont just got a little bit easier.  The transportation agency announced that their app, Go Vermont!, has a new upgrade.

Summer Threats and Staying Safe

Vermont - As we approach the summer months here in Vermont, there are some different risks to keep in mind when heading outdoors for any activities. The National Weather Service has a campaign called 'Weather Ready Nation' thats main purpose is to educate the public on different risks associated with the different types of summer weather. The NWS has been able to create an outreach group of Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors, which help to spread the Weather Ready Nation messaging out to the public. While most of the information provided is more nationally targeted, there are still some important takeaways to get looking at these closer to home.

VERMONT - The Climate Prediction Center recently released its 3-month outlooks on temperature and precipitation across the United States. This outlook paints an idea as to which areas have the best chance of being above average and below average for that time period.

VERMONT - Vermont is seeing firsthand some of the impacts of climate change. The University of Vermont has been conducting research into the impacts of climate change on the state and has compiled its findings into a user-friendly website for the public to access its findings.

VT Secretary Jim Condos Will Not Return To Office

VERMONT - After 12 years as Vermont Secretary of State, Jim Condos has announced he will not be on the ballot in the fall. "While I have enjoyed this job every day, I look forward to a new chapter next January," he said. This announcement came Tuesday afternoon during a press conference.

Shiffrin Wins Five Straight at Killington

KILLINGTON - After snow and high winds cancelled Saturday's Giant slalom race, athletes took to the slopes on Sunday for the Home light Killington Cup slalom race as four of those athletes have strong connections to Vermont.
