DANVILLE - The Danville School building advisory committee had their last meeting on October 20th to answer any last questions from community members. That meeting was almost stalled after a question about the tax impact that the town would have to take on for each of the options was asked.
The advisory committee has been meeting since the summer to discuss the options they have and have currently settled on three potential options being presented to voters. The first would include building a new wing on the Danville School for elementary students. The second includes building an addition to the Danville School, who's use would be determined at a later date. And the third option is building an entirely new school on the current soccer field. These options come after lengthy discussions about the age of the school and the increase in population being served in the building.
Member John Blackman spoke up and asked to read aloud an email from the school board. The email outlined that the building advisory committee should only be making their recommendation based on what is best for the kids. John Blackman explained if the group knew that their only job was to make their recommendation based on what is best for the kids, they would have only had one meeting and it would only have taken 15 minutes.
"I don't want to put kids through renovations for 2 to 3 years and all the disruption, and everything like that. I would vote for a new school," Blackman said.
The committee will recommend to the school board that a new school be built. They will be presenting their argument to the school board on November 1st in the Danville School Library.
