About Us

The capstone experience for students in the Journalism & Communications Department at Northern Vermont University - Lyndon, is the Vermont Center for Community Journalism. The VCCJ provides a geographical laboratory for the training of journalists who will deliver news and information vital for the practice of democracy in a civilized society.

The community service learning area of the Vermont Center for Community Journalism encompasses 14 Vermont towns surrounding the Lyndon campus. Since 1979, citizens have been informed by the student-produced live broadcasts of LSC-TV News 7. The VCCJ's nationally recognized online news outlet NewsLINC debuted in 2009 (the “LINC” in the site’s name is a historic shout-out to Lyndon’s original Interactive Communications effort in 1980 - the LINC Project). A new electronic print publication called NewsINK was rolled out in 2010. The experiential nature of the program is unmatched in all of New England.
