Sutton School Budget

sutton THUMBSUTTON- The budget for the Sutton School has been set. Next year's school budget will be less than what it was last year by about $100,000. Principal Ken Hayes showed some concerns for Act 46 and how the bill would affect future budgets and Sutton taxpayers.

According to Hayes, Act 46 has not yet impacted the school financially, but he says it will.

“Every other school has bussing. So that saves us probably anywhere from 110 to 120 thousand,” says Hayes.

If the school were to close, this would be the last straw of holding the community together. Hayes says in Sutton the school is the only community building in town [and] all of the town events are held there.

“As soon as we lose our identity, for our schools concern, then we loose out community," Hayes says.

According to Hayes, without Act 46, Sutton is doing very well and with the act, Sutton taxpayers will see an increase in taxes.

Hayes says the big driving force backing the school is the students’ parents, with the school being small. They can go to town meetings, the school board, or Principal Hayes himself.

The school is hopes that Act 46 does not affect the taxpayers of Sutton for the future.
