Town of Burke Town Meeting

The town of Burke held their annual town meeting last night with a clear intent on making major town improvements

At 6:30 last night, the town of Burke gathered for the 2024 annual report and town meeting. This years' meeting was mainly focused around town repairs and improvements. The board explained that although they are planning extensive improvements, that they are determined to keep a level tax rate due to the already existing Vermont taxes.

Town and board members expressed their concerns about the state of many roads, bridges and areas throughout Burke. While the town is able to provide most of the funds needed, they are hopeful to recieve federal funding to aid these projects.

Town members agreed with the proposed plans as some roads are affecting the town. One of the biggest issues brought up was Brooke road as the state of the road and bridge has become an issue. It has made it difficult for rescue services to safely access the road, and many students are unable to take the bus due to how unsafe the road is.

A budget of 74 thousand dollars was proposed to redo the West Burke Park. Many towns people feel that this budget is unnessecary due to prior conversations on the roads and bridges.

Voting ends tonight at 7, where we will know the outcome for these proposed plans.
