KESD Annual School Board Meeting

The Kingdom East School District held their annual school board meeting last night with a heavy focus on their budget.

Lyndon- At 5 o'clock last night, community members joined KESD's school board for their annual meeting. This year, the school board proposed over a 2 million dollar increase in their budget. This will lead to a homestead tax rate increase of up to 5.82 percent.

Tax payers were concerned about the rate increase with a common question of "Where is it all going?". The school board explained that they were budgeting for about 13 thousand dollars per student throughout the district. This should ensure that the district can meet every need for their students to ensure that they can thrive in school.

Community members expressed concern regarding the uncertainty surrounding federal funding. The district plans to use their new budget to aid the district if this was to happen. Additionally, programs outside of school would be cut to save money, such as summer camps and any experimental learning programs. The school board does not think that this should be an issue for this coming school year, but has an idea of what will be done.

Voting closes tonight at 7pm. Due to the debates about taxes, it is uncertain if the new budget will be passed.
