CALEDONIA COUNTY- Jane Kitchel and Joe Benning will remain in the state senate after winning yesterday's elections. Democrat Jane Kitchel received 45 percent of the votes and Republican Joe Benning received 35 percent of the votes.
Kitchel and Benning will remain in their respectful seats in the State Senate, while Democrat Mike Heath, who was vying to take Joe Benning's seat, fell a little less than 3,000 votes short of over taking Benning.
Kitchel was first elected into the house in 2004. Since being in the Senate, Kitchel fought off a raid on the Higher Education Trust Fund, which provides financial help to Vermont State College students.
The St. Johnsbury native and Wilson College graduate with the win, plans on continuing her effort to bring jobs to the Northeast Kingdom, as well as holding the Government responsible.
Benning, a Lyndon State College graduate where he was on the Dean's List, was first elected in 2010.
In the Senate, Joe serves as Vice-Chair of the Judiciary and also on the Institutions Committee.
During his first term, he served on the Natural Resources and Energy Committee.
Benning is also the Senate Minority Leader for the Republican party. Benning and his iconic little red car have a mission to focus on fiscal responsibility and creating jobs.
