River District Project Recieves Grant

river districtLITTLETON - Littleton's 7.5 million dollar River District project is receiving a large financial boost. It comes in the form of a $250,000 grant for the project.

David Ernsberger, the River District Commissioner, said that the development of the Ammonoosuc River District, along with Main Street, was the next opportunity for growth in Littleton.

Not only will the historical assets of the district be preserved, the development will help in the creation of new jobs as well as the start up of new businesses.

The commission is still in search of funds to reach their goal, however, local businesses have been largely supportive of the project along with the community at large.

"We had well over several hundred volunteers over at different times in the last few months that have pitched in on weekends… We've cleaned up all along the river to really make it a more beautiful welcoming spot," Ernberger said. He continued saying, "We've had thirty-six different companies, when I went out and asked the businesses of Littleton 'could you help us financially so that we don't have to ask the people for the funds-- but we pitch in ourselves' and between the businesses in town, the businesses in the industrial park, and people very much a part of this community, we very quickly raised almost two hundred fifty thousand dollars."

Governor Maggie Hassan believes that Littleton can achieve its goals through maintaining a strong sense of community.

"We are an all hands on deck state. When we face a challenge, the people of New Hampshire roll up our sleeves and we come together to get things done. That's how you are revitalizing Main Street right here in Littleton, and that's how together, we'll keep New Hampshire, and the North Country moving in the right direction," Governor Hassan said.

Right now the commission is simply showing how they will continue to enhance the district. Their hopes are that the project itself will be complete in two to three years.
