NEW HAMPSHIRE - Democrat Mike Cryans will concede to Republican Joe Kenney in the race for the NH District 1 Executive Council seat formerly held by Ray Burton.
Cryans told News 7/NewsLINC at 11 a.m. today he had made attempts to contact his GOP opponent to announce his decision, but so far had been unsuccesful.
"I'm just trying to get ahold of my opponent and when I do so I will formally concede," Cryans said.
"I'm very proud of all the people that helped me, supported me, and voted for me."
The District 1 seat has been in Republican control for decades, most recently filled by Bath-native Councilor Ray Burton, who was consecutively re-elected since 1981.
"I am overwhelmed by all the generosity that people have given me," Cryans said. "Obviously I would've liked to have won, but one thing I will take away is the generosity of people who supported me and my campaign."
Cryans, a Littleton native, appeared to be ahead by a short margin during early voting results, but Kenney, of Wakefield, quickly caught up and overtook the lead. Final election results were still being reviewed early Wednesday.
The Kenney campaign did not immediately return calls this morning.
