ST.JOHNSBURY- Between the dates April 21st through April 27th, the St.Johnsbury Police Department (assisted by other law enforcement agencies) will be conducting sobriety and vehicle safety checkpoints. These checkpoints use high visibility enforcement to remind drivers the importance of safe driving.
An aggressive effort will be made to help law enforcement identify impaired drivers. Officers will also be enforcing seat belts, child restraint, and other motor vehicle laws.
On average, almost one third of all fatal crashes are caused by impaired drivers and more than half of those drivers deaths were a result from not having their seat belts on. Drivers are reminded to to always remain aware of their operating speed and to avoid being distracted while driving.
