Helmet Laws

helmetST. JOHNSBURY- With the Senate rejecting the recall on motorcycle helmet laws,  the discussion on the matter is back in the forefront.

The law, as it is currently written, says "No person may operate or ride upon a motorcycle upon a highway unless he wears upon his head protective headgear...The headgear shall be equipped with a neck or chin strap."

The argument from motorcyclists are that the helmets cause blind spots and can create an impairment of hearing by the rider. While Spencer Hudson from All Around Power in St. Johnsbury didn't mention any impairments he did say there should be a choice.

Hudson said "I think that a helmet should be a choice. I think helmets are much safer." Hudson also mentioned that when it comes to his own son, who got his motorcycle helmet this summer, he is going to make sure he does wear a helmet. "I have seen some situations without helmets, its not good" he said.

With spring slowly inching its way towards us, riders are hoping to have their bikes out by next month by the earliest.
