SJA Faculty Awarded Grants

SJAGrantsST. JOHNSBURY - St. Johnsbury Academy awarded grants to two faculty members of $250 each. The grants are based around the school's technology integration program and help to provide the equipment necessary to get technology in the classroom.

Library Director Linda Wooster, received one of the grants in order to better develop an online resource center for the students. Wooster believes that a redesigned resource center will help students find the information they are looking for faster and easier. "something that looks like some of the sites that they go to for everything that they do. Its just human nature to find it easier to use when it looks familiar." Wooster hopes that this new software will help students develop new interests or further one that is already there."We can also help all the students here who want to create websites. So it really takes a little bit of money and amplifies the effect of it."

The second grant was awarded to Media Studies and Production teacher Grace Egbert, for the purchase of a new digital camera for the students. Egbert says that its important for students to have experience with the right equipment. "I want my students to be able to you know use a high quality piece of technology. To go out and find what's going on in the community, to be able to look more closely at their environment to learn about composition." Students were able try the new camera hands on when they visited the state, giving them real world experience with real world equipment.
