St J Fire Truck Needs Repair

ST. JOHNSBURY - The St. Johnsbury fire department has owned their "Engine 1" truck since 2001. Earlier this week, the St. Johnsbury select board approved $22,320 for repairs.

"These are items that when we take them a mechanic they identify them and they need to be addressed." Brad Reeds, St. Johnsbury Fire Chief said.

Repairs include new springs, new pipes, and updates to the frame.

Chief Reeds also says that inspections happen once every year with cleaning of equipment every month. With the truck being in use for over 20 years, Reeds says, "It is due to be replaced." However, it is not like a regular car where you can just buy it from a dealer. It is a 2 year process to order a new truck. The department has started this process.

"We've got a little bit of time ahead of us and we needed to make the repairs on the older engine so it can remain service for a little longer," Reeds said.
