Parking Lot Agreement

ParkingLOT ST. JOHNSBURY - The parking lot across from the Star movie theater in St. Johnsbury is now back open. Last November, the owner of the private space had closed a portion of the parking lot because of maintenance costs.

That's when town officials stepped in and proposed a plan with the state to only plow the parking lot during the winter months, meaning the state would have to maintain it. Chad Whitehead explained what happened during the negotiations, "at one point when we were trying to work with us with an agreement with the private property owner, we also had the state involved because they need the lot for day time use. They are a large employer, they have a lot of visitors… and so when we are working with an agreement to benefit them where we would plow it and they would plow it."

The new agreement allows for the town to open the space to the public, as long as the town plows and maintains it.
