Prue Sentencing Moved Home

allen prue1ST. JOHNSBURY - Allen Prue will return to Caledonia County Court for his sentencing after being found guilty of the murder of St. Johnsbury Academy teacher Melissa Jenkins.

The 32-year-old Waterford man was convicted in Chittenden Superior Court last month for the first degree murder and attempted kidnapping of Jenkins, as well as conspiracy to murder her.

The trial was originally moved to Chittenden County by Judge Robert Bent in order to provide Prue with a fair trial and impartial jurors. When guilty verdicts were decided in Burlington, Bent proposed that sentencing for Allen Prue could also take place there.

Caledonia County State's Attorney Lisa Warren asked Bent to move sentencing back to the Caledonia County Courthouse located in St. Johnsbury. The Judge issued an entry order yesterday granting the move to Warren.

Judge Bent said that now that the trial has ended, the purpose of the transfer is complete.

Allen Prue has filed a motion to appeal to the Vermont State Supreme Court, requesting a new trial. If granted, this will not occur until after sentencing. Prue's sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
