As we approach this warmer season, authorities are recommending to take precautions for having fires.
Fire Chief Jeff Corrow laid out the expectations they have for Lyndon residents who want to have fires in town and near the woods. He stated that people need to make sure and register for a Burn Permit online, it can be found at lyndonvillefiredepartment.com.“We start planning around February time nowadays for spring thaw and what come’s with spring thaw is grass fires and or forest fires woods fires whatever you wanna call it and grass fires are normally started by humans it could have been a burning they could have had a little campfire, they didn’t put it out, wind came up, took it in burnt, caught some grass on fire so it’s mostly human made”, (Jeff Corrow). The common problems with fires spreading are either not being maintained properly and not having a proper security, a fire pit or stone to contain it. This time of year is even more important to take precaution with how dry the grass is. One of the things they do is go and put fires out mainly in the wilderness, some of the tools they use are shovels, pics, and backpack hoses.
