Vermont State University's Lyndon campus held their 10th annual Vermont Animation Festival this past weekend.
People who showed up to the Vermont Animation Festival created their own talking characters with an indepth lipsyncing work shop. A handful of people attended Lipsyncing, and looked at what it takes to animate a mouth.
The festival kicked off Friday night with an artist's talk. This was put on by their keynote speaker, Hailey Mores of shape and shadow. Saturday consisted of 5 workshops which offered a variety of interesting topics. They finished off the festival with an animation screening and award ceremony.
Animation and Illustration program coordinator, Barclay Tucker explained, "What we do at Animation festival is we, as part of it, we have a number of workshops and those change from year to year. This year we had one from Kevin Harkey who is a storyboard artist who has worked with Disney and Bluesky and DreamWorks and a lot of other companies."
Additionally, there was a workshop on stop motion animation, put on by their keynotes speaker and two put on by animation & illustration alumni on Blip and lip-syncing.
Kate Renner, an Animation Professor at the college explains, "Since we're in a rural area it's a great networking opportunity and there are a lot of adults and teenagers and kids who I've heard say, 'It's so nice to meet other animators in this area'."
Due to the weather, attendance was lower than expected, but the festival was able to make workshops available online. The campus plans to continue to hold this festival each year and are hopeful that the weather will allow a much bigger turnout in following years.
