Lydonville Flooding

Lyndon - Lyndonville residents on March 17th woke up to road closures near Route 122 and Center Street due to excessive flooding in the area.

Water had been on the rise all morning, completely covering certain roads like this one by Miller’s Run Bridge. Lyndonville officials urged residents to seek alternative routes and to be careful, as only a few inches of water can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the region, which is effective through midnight Tuesday, due to a combination of heavy rainfall and excessive snowmelt. Forecasters are predicting rainfall anywhere between 0.5 and 1 inch.

Lyndonville, however, wasn’t the only town affected by this morning’s weather, as East Barton and St. Johnsbury had issues of their own. In St. J’s case, an ice jam caused a road closure between North Danville Road and Goss Hollow.

“We’re just waiting for what Mother Nature has in store for us, but we’re just gonna have to wait to see if there’s more ice coming down the river, and we’re not sure when this jam is gonna release,” said a local official.

As the water levels continue to change in the region, residents are advised to stay alert, check for updates, and always consider turning around if they approach a flooded area on their commute.
