VSC Tobacco Policy

VSC TobaccoLYNDON- Tobacco users in the Vermont State College System should be on the look out for possible changes in the upcoming months.

In May 2016, The Vermont Department of Health went to the Board of Trustees to ask the colleges to create a Tobacco-Free Campus plan for the fall of 2018.

The current policy in place dictates that tobacco may only be used in parking lots away from buildings.

According to Jonathan Davis, Dean of Students at Lyndon State College, this policy change will force people, "to find locations other than the campus entirely."

Davis also says, one possible acceptable smoking location would be McGoff Hill road.

"There's going to be a lot of interest on both sides of the issue. We want to make sure we get feedback from all the major constituents on campus, and then make the right decision moving forward," said Davis.

The Board plans to vote on the proposed policy change by the end of November.
