Danville's Town Meeting Day

Today, residents of Danville have the opportunity to vote on a variety of proposals from 10 AM until 7 PM at the Danville School. The town meeting, which carried out this morning through the voting process, is an important event for residents to weigh in on several key issues.

Like many other towns, the town meeting proposals include elections for a few different local positions, as well as decisions on town budgets and the allocation of local taxes.

One of the significant proposals is the Danville School Budget, which, along with many other school districts, saw an increase due to the higher cost of state public healthcare for educators. This has been a major expense not only for Danville but also for the St. Johnsbury School District.

Clayton Cargill, Chair of the School Board, commented on the situation, saying, “It keeps increasing, this year we’re at 11%, last year we were at 16%, and two years prior we were also over 10%. So, healthcare costs are skyrocketing out of control.”

Another noteworthy proposal includes resurfacing the public tennis courts on school grounds, with a budget of $20,000 for the project. There is also a major proposal for over $81,000 to hire or contract additional police or sheriff coverage due to a need for more officers in the community.

Residents can also expect a small tax rate increase from 1.70 to 1.74
