BURKE- Mountain bike season is coming to a close. On Sunday, October 27th, Kingdom Trails at Burke Mountain will be hosting their annual end of season event called Circum Burke. Now in its fourth year, the event has grown dramatically since its start.
The mountain bike and trail run challenge featured only 30 participants in it's first event. Now, three years later, Kingdom Trails director, Tim Tireny expects that there will be nearly 300 participants this year. The 25 mile circuit will be on special trails this year and Tireny sees these trails as a different experience for the riders.
"Its 25 miles, these are trails that we don't normally use. We get a permit for the day to use the trails. They are pretty rugged so you're going to get a little muddier then usual, but it's all group fun, people race it, other people are out there to just finish it," Tierney said.
The event includes many difficult challenges for each participant. The 25 mile circuit has new single tracks as well as expanded use of the Kingdom Trails network, as well as 3,000+ total feet of ascending and defending that each rider faces every lap. There will also be unofficial times and finishing orders posted online after the event for anyone who is interested. It is a 10:00am start for anybody who is biking the trails, and a 10:15am start for anybody who plans on running.
