Q Burke Looking to Fill Jobs

QBurke HotelBURKE – Rooms are bare and construction crews are busy painting and prepping the new Q Burke hotel, but those overseeing the project are already looking ahead to when the first guests arrive. Hiring is the top priority between now and the hotel's grand opening on December 11.

The hotel is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the region, according to resort officials. It's difficult for Q Burke marketing manager Jessica Sechler to provide an exact number at this time, but she's prepared for an extensive hiring process.

"If I had to guess, I'd say upwards of 300 [jobs], she explained. "We're looking for all levels of ability right now."

The hotel is looking to fill a variety of positions, ranging from director and management roles to work in the housekeeping, food service, and concierge departments.

"It's an ongoing process," Sechler said. "There are a lot of positions to fill."

Sechler says the resort is taking a unique approach when it comes to hiring. Officials plan to fill management positions first and then use input from those individuals to determine the best approach for hiring at the service level.

The resort also welcomes the idea of looking for potential candidates in the local area.

"With any project of this size, we want to bring something to the table and we want to bring opportunity here for the community," Sechler explained.

The hotel will have 116 rooms and a full conference center. It will also house a ski shop, gym, full restaurant, bar, and arcade.

Q Burke is relying on the idea of increased visitor traffic – and tourism dollars – to fund the project.

"This is going to bring a lot more awareness to East Burke," Sechler noted. "A lot more influx of destination guests and people looking for something to do."

Sechler pointed out that the resort is already receiving applications from candidates across the country, "but if someone is qualified locally, they have just as much opportunity as anyone else."

Q Burke hopes to sell jobseekers on the idea that there is potential to move up as a member of the hotel's staff.

"This is a pretty big opportunity both for career advancement and maybe salary-wise for some people," Sechler said.

Job applications for those interested are available online at Q Burke's website. The hiring process will continue through the winter.
