Fall Foliage Festival 2015

burke fall foliageBURKE – Driving for nine hours may sound like too much for some, but for others, the Burke Fall Foliage Festival is well worth it. From the Northeast Kingdom to South Dakota, the event attracted crowds from everywhere.

“I’m just lucky that I found it,” says festival patron Lisa Mangino. “It took us nine hours to get here, but I'd do it every year for as long as I can. It's perfect here.”

For the twenty-eighth year in a row, the festival was a hit. Sue Haynie, the owner of Sweet Seasons Farm, was one of the record-breaking seventy-five vendors to sell their goods at the festival.

“I think it is the time of year we can kick off the fall season,” Haynie explains. “Burke is a beautiful little town. We have the mountains, all of the colors and a lot of nice people. I think the Burke festival has something for everybody."

Sweets and treats, arts and crafts, and more were available for all to enjoy. Burke Chamber of Commerce President Tim Tierney believes community is key to making the festival what it is.

“People feel it here, even the vendors love it,” says Tierney. “We have a long waiting list for people who want to come here because we are bringing more and more people. That’s all it is, us working together, celebrating our community.”

Vendor Ronnie Kohrt, owner of Ugly Mug Pottery, also knows part of the success is due to the gorgeous foliage this time of year.

"I think a lot of what makes Vermont beautiful is the foliage, and a lot of what makes pottery unique is that it’s one of a kind. I thought to pair that together would just be awesome. This festival was immediately circled on my calendar for a place to be."
