Burke Votes on RV Parking

rv votingBURKE - Burke residents are voting today on a hot topic that is months in the making, the parking of RV's on campsites and other private property. Mike Mathers, Burke property owner, had proposed to allow recreational use campgrounds in East and West Burke Villages.

Mathers says, "You need to give these guys a place to go. I thought I had a great spot for it, and I still do. It's ended up being quite a process to get to that stage."

Mathers wants a revision of a town by-law that bans RV's from being on land unless you own more than ten acres. Supporters of the proposal say it will boost the local economy by inviting more tourists.

"It brings a lot of business , a lot of bikers and skiers, all that come up here and if they don't have a place to park their motor home without going about 20 miles away, they aren't going to come back. We should do everything we can to keep the business coming and the people." says Carolyn Starr, a burke resident.

On the other hand, some residents are concerned that this could create a "tent city".
