Lake Morey Resort's Summer Concert Series on Pause

The summer concert series held in Fairlee was a result of a partnership between the Lake Morey Resort and Catamount Arts. 

Shows with attendees ranging into almost 10,000 were free and open to the public on the fairway.

However, according to reporting by WCAX, the show was put on pause for 2027 due to Act 250, as state officials reached out to the family-owned resort and informed them that the concerts are not within their current permit. 

With the fairway shows on hold for the time being, News7 reached out to local businesses to get an idea what effect this might have on the community. 

Taryn Adamczyk, owner of the Sunnyside Cafe, spoke about the benefits of the concert series for her business. 

“We definitely felt it, particularly on Thursdays and Fridays. It and was great for our business and we felt more people in town. The energy was good. All of the bands swing through and get coffee, so we definitely loved having the concert series here. We still have great summer crowds, but for sure that was bringing a large volume of people that won't otherwise come into town.”

She also spoke about what an ideal world could look like when or if the concert were to return.

“I think finding kind of a middle ground between these really big shows like Shaggy and all the people that are, or the crowds that were like coming from all over and finding like a smaller, more manageable crowd size where they can keep tabs on parking and alcohol and all of those things that are causing or where causing the issues so that it can really be like a community focused event that's sustainable size wise, would be amazing.”

We also spoke to employees at the Ninny Goat & Co. and they said: while the shows were great for business and amazing for the residents of Fairlee. Parking, and substance abuse were primary concerns especially during the Shaggy show which saw roughly 10,000 attendees present. 

Many of the people we spoke to, wished to see the show return in some way but with more regulation and safety in kind, especially for the residents of Fairlee

While community members continue forward, the future of the Summer Concert Series remains up in the air.
