NEK - This week, residents of Ryegate, Ryegate, and Groton voted on the Blue Mountain Union School budget, which included a 5.27% increase in per pupil spending. The final budget increase resulted in a $12,054,049 expansion, which will be allocated to salaries, increased healthcare costs, and general funds.
Kelsey Root-Winchester/Board Member: “So when you look at the year-over-year budget and you look at the $12 million we’re at now, $131,816 of those dollars are the dollars that the school board really evaluated the value of adding these programs or if there was personal involvement in any of these things.”
The school's budget passed, much like many other Vermont school budgets. All residents of Ryegate, Wells River, and Groton can expect a significantly higher non-residential tax rate, with the largest increase expected in Groton, where a 22.43% non-residential tax rate increase is anticipated.
