F-35s Coming to Burlington

VERMONT - Don't be surprised to see F-35's landing at Burlington National Airport in the near future. The United States military and government have decided to make these jet fighters native to Vermont. These planes will arrive in the year 2020. Right now they are being tested to make sure that they are ready to fly, problem-free.
When asked why Burlington was picked to house the F-35, Captain Dyana Allen said "Burlington Air Guard Station (AGS) was selected because it presents the best mix of infrastructure, airspace and overall cost to the Air Force." Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations Timothy Bridges also commented, saying, "Burlington's airspace and ranges can also support projected F-35A operational training requirements and offers joint training opportunities with F-15Cs from Barnes AGS, the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, and CF-18s stationed at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville in Quebec."

It reflects the Guard’s dedication to its mission and long record of outstanding performance. The Air Force has made clear that this aircraft, which will anchor our national air defenses, is the Air Force’s future. Now the men and women of Vermont’s Air National Guard have been chosen for a vital role in that future. The decision ensures the Vermont Air Guard’s continuing mission and protects hundreds of jobs and educational opportunities for Vermonters while securing its significant contribution to the local economy. We appreciate the Guard’s commitment to continue working with its airport neighbors to address legitimate concerns about noise and other environmental concerns," said Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
Lt. Governor Phil Scott believes this will help the economy and and the future of the Air National Guard. “When this new generation of aircrafts land in Vermont, it will deliver an important message: The future of the Air Force, and thus our nation’s security, is in the best of hands.”
