The Washington Railway now has a new facility thanks to Couture Trucking and the Craft Brewing Industry. On Thursday, December 8th, the Vermont Rail System and Couture Trucking cohosted an event to talk about their recent success. "This country abandoned rails many years ago when it really shouldn't have," says State Senator of Essex and Orleans Counties, John Rodgers.
The craft brewing industry is evolving with a key new ingredient. The ingredient is multed barley, which is a wheat product imported from Europe, and that's what is keeping Washington County Railroad and Couture Trucking moving forward.
President of Couture Trucking, Dwayne Couture talked about the brewing industries in Vermont, "I think that the brewers have a great outlook and they're always looking to develop new products and I think doing that will propel it into the future."
Couture Trucking, which began in Orleans County, began to expand just as the beer industry has, and on Thursday of this week, celebrated its opening of their new facility, located in Barton, Vermont.
President of the Vermont Rail System, David Wulfson, about the new facility, "We did a lot of this on a handshake between myself, Jeanne and Dwayne Couture, a lot of this started just as a vision and then we kind of worked into it."
Previously, what used to be an old railroad track in Barton has now been revived, involving two summer seasons and 70,000 yards of material. The new Barton rail system is newly improved and now open for business.
State Senator for Orleans County, John Rodgers, talks about the location of the new facility, "For a while we thought that we were going to loose this track altogether, so now to see things like this popping up, which will help the rail system stay healthy and make sure it's here for the future, who knows the sky's the limit."
This all started in the breweries, then expanded to the railways and now there's that opportunity to create so much more in the future.
Couture Trucking delivers to a handful of breweries throughout the state including Long Trail, Otter Creek, Magic Hat, Rock Art and Hill Farmstead Brewery.
