The Reward of Giving Back to Animals

dog Orleans- Although, Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter is just outside the Northeast Kingdom their volunteers help animals from all around Vermont.  In 2015, Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter adopted out 314 cats and dogs.  They hope to improve this number in 2016.

Golfers in the Vermont winters are itching for the snow to melt and the courses to open so they may begin their season.

Act 46 Affects Peacham

Act 46What schools may be merged together because of act 46 were discussed the other night. Schools include K-8th grade Walden, Peacham, Barnet, and Waterford. Other talks included K-12th grade schools Danville, Cabot, and Twinfield.

However, there could be a chance that some student veterans can’t let go of what they experienced in their service, and are suffering because of it. That is the effect of post traumatic stress disorder.

Dropping Milk Prices Stress Farmers

cowwNortheast Kingdom - The declining milk prices continue to make Vermont dairy farmers nervous. Over the last two years milk prices have dropped from a near record high of $25 per every 100 gallons of milk produced, to just $15 for every 100 gallons.

Lyndon Students Competing in Vermont History Day

U-32 schoolThe U-32 School will be hosting Vermont History Day this Saturday. The event will have about 200 Vermont students, including students from the Lyndon Town School, who are in the fifth and sixth grade. All students will be competing to convey the state's 225-year history to others. The theme of this year's History Day is exploration, encounter and exchange.

Troopers Death Ruled Accidental

trooperAROUND THE NEK- The Vermont Department of Public Safety has announced they will not be cited for any workplace safety violation following the death of a Vermont State trooper.

Last September, Trooper Kyle Young collapsed at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho during the tryouts for the state police tactical team. The 28 year old subsequently died of heatstroke. The incident was under investigation by the state.

Waterford Home Destroyed by Fire

Waterford Fire Waterford - A massive blaze destroyed a single-family home on Hudson Road in Waterford this weekend. Waterford Rescue rushed to the scene just after 10 a.m. on Saturday to put out the fire and try to salvage part of the house.

Because Waterford is in a rural part of the state, it is challenging for fire departments to get there on time.
