Golf Tournament

golf tournamentST. JOHNSBURY – Last week residents from all over went to play golf in St. Johnsbury in honor of Eugene McDonough. McDonough, a St. Johnsbury firefighter, lost his life 16 years ago fighting a warehouse fire in Lyndonville.

On September 5th the St. Johnsbury Country Club hosted a golf tournament to not only honor the life of McDonough, but to also provide support for the Gene McDonough Scholarship Fund. This fund gives out scholarships to students who live in the area that are going to college for a public safety degree.
People in the community have always showed their support for those affected most by the lose McDonough. Betsy Brown, McDonough's daughter, said, "I grew up here and I knew that it's a great place to grow up. When this happened sixteen years ago, the amount of love and support we got from not just St. Johnsbury but also from the Northeast Kingdom, Northern New Hampshire and all over New England. It was amazing and it's still amazing, it means so much to us."
Bradley Reed, the tournament Chairman said, "He was around the firehouse and everybody liked him. He was kind of a likeable guy and he really loved the fire service."
