One St. Johnsbury Academy Senior is going the distance to help out people in need. Kayla Davis decided for her senior project that she would collect hair donations for the Locks Of Love organization. The results were astounding, as she collected three hundred ponytails for the cause.
Locks Of Love is a non-for-profit organization that receives hair as donation and makes wigs for children cancer patients that are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
"We donated our hair by cutting it in front of everybody,” said Davis. “I personally donated nineteen inches of my own hair.”
The collection was held in the St. J Academy field house Tuesday. Six hairdressers from around the area donated their time to the worthy cause, including Erica Greene.
“It’s just fun with the girls, they are all really fun and nice,” said Greene. “It’s a good time and I really enjoy cutting off people’s hair, so it’s fun for me, too!”
Alyssa Newton, a student at St. J Academy isn’t a stranger to donating to Locks of Love.
“This is my second time [donating], I donated when I was ten years old,” said Newton. “Then, I donated eleven or twelve inches, and today I’m donating ten inches.”
Davis will be heading to West Palm Beach, Florida to hand deliver all the donations to the Locks of Love national headquarters.
