Time for Trout

time for troutST. JOHNSBURY -  Warm weather has many people thinking about their favorite time of year... trout season. One groug is helping to make fishermen everywere smile. The Vermonts Trophy Trout Program stocks some of the largest trout in the nation. The Passumpsic River is now the home to five hundred new fish.

Eric Palmer of the VT Fisheries said "We put in two year old trout which are larger than the average trout that we stock. Most of the trout that we stock are ten to twelve inches and these two year old fish are getting up to sixteen inches which is a real nice size fish."

With all the fish entering the river many fisherman are very excited to get the season going. Dick Wasuk a local fisherman has been fishing for many years and hopes to keep it in the family "I taught my grandchildren how to fish" and Palmer says "Alot of people get into the sport by having someone else mentor them...it's alot easier if someone knows where to go...what to put on the end of your line."

Anybody over the age of 15 does need a fishing lisence. If you ould like more information on this please visit vtfishandwildlife.com.
