Eastern Avenue and Pearl Street Intersection Closure Next Week

ST. JOHNSBURY - Part of Eastern Avenue in St. Johnsbury will be temporarily closed to traffic early next week while a contractor works on water system upgrades.

The closure of the Eastern Avenue and Pearl Street intersection is expected to last all day Monday. The intersection will be reopened Monday night and may be closed again on Tuesday.

The closure is necessary to allow a contractor to put in a 300-foot section of water main running from Eastern Avenue down Pearl Street. St. Johnsbury Town Manager Chad Whitehead said the water system upgrade has been on the town's agenda for a while and will provide water to the new Saint Johnsbury Distillery building and allow for needed sprinkler upgrades to a handful of other nearby buildings.

Whitehead suggested drivers detour through one of the many side streets in town. "It'll be open up to the construction so people still can get in, like get to businesses, but if people are traveling through on Eastern Avenue we recommend they just go around, either up Maple Street, or you can even use Federal as a detour, or South Main Street. There's a lot of different ways to get up the hill."
