St. Johnsbury Businesses Are Changing

ST.J Buisnesses ST. JOHNSBURY- The town of St. Johnsbury will be welcoming new businesses in the next few weeks. Some of which will be adding to establishments currently in business, and some will be starting brand new. Executive Director of the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, Darci McCann sees this as a big turn around for the town of St. Johnsbury and surrounding communities.

"I think we are really starting to see some moderate growth here in the Northeast Kingdom area. A couple of years relatively slow and it's just really good news for the downtown as well as the surrounding areas," said McCann.

One business making changes is the St. Johnsbury Distillery, which will be moving to the former St. Johnsbury Hardware store on the corner of Pearl Street and the corner of Eastern Avenue. However, their tasting room will remain in its current location at the Celtic Marketing on Main Street. Currently, the owners are Dan and Brendan Hughes who previously owned the Dunc's Milll distillery in Barnet . They plan on opening there new location in 2019.

There also will be a new brewery that will go into the old space of the Keene Medical Supply on Railroad Street. It will be named the Whirligig Brewing, and owner, Geoffrey Sewake, of Peacham is hoping to open by spring of 2019.

The Kingdom Tap Room also plans on extending their restaurant to the upstairs for more space. Owner, Jamie Murphy, plans on doing this by January.

Another new restaurant in the works will be called 142 Eastern, and it will be located on 142 Eastern Avenue. This will be slightly different than your typical restaurant as it will contain dinners with musicians or artists. The first dinner show will be on January 25, 2019.

The Star Theatre in St. Johnsbury is also making plans to expand their theatre by adding a potential fourth screen. As of right now, their current owner Al Boulay is hoping to have the fourth theatre screen open by the spring of 2019.

The new Depot Square Commercial Properties will be located on the current Depot Apartments building as well. This building will allow the Kingdom Developmental Company and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital to partner with one another to improve Vermont housing. The building project's completion date is still undetermined.
