Meals on Wheels Deficit

mealnwheelzST. JOHNSBURY - The St. Johnsbury Meals on Wheels program has been battling financial hardship for the last few years and is currently facing a $12,000 deficit.

Director Diane Colburn reached out to the community for help.  “It’s been slowly building, climbing, and when we decided to do our fundraising letter this year we really reached out to the community.  Passumpsic Bank was incredible to us. So we need the community to help so that people don’t go without food.”

The program feeds nutritional and cost-friendly meals to around 100 elderly people a day.  Many of these meals provide nutrition that residents wouldn't normally receive, and often times are the only meals they eat each day.

Colburn is doing everything she can to reach out to the community for help. “I’ve been doing this for 18 years, and it really does need the community's support to help the elderly so that they do stay home and they do get good nutritional meals.”
