SHEFFIELD- While Town Meeting Day may be a step towards a new beginning for some, this year's Town Meeting Day means the end for one. After 30 years of working in the town office of Sheffield, Town Clerk, Kathy Newland, is retiring.
From 1984 to 2014, Newland has committed to many duties as Sheffield's Town Clerk. She has organized preparation work for Town Meeting Day every year and has also had duties of record keeping, and assisting town residents when problems or questions occurred.
Retirement for Newland will come as soon as the month of March comes around. With more free time on her hands, she plans to use her time on the golf course.
Newland says saying goodbye to her position, as well as fellow colleagues, will be a bitter sweet feeling.
Her last town meeting appearance will be at Sheffield's Town Meeting Day on March 4th.
