LYNDON - After being closed last year from the pandemic and financial issues, the Fenton Chester Arena looks to open its doors to the public once again.
Recently, the Lyndon Select board voted to put 25-thousand dollars towards upgrades for the 40 year old facility. Rink Inc. is also helping to manage the rink so that it can be around for a long time.
"I'm a coach and a hockey dad myself and the other folks on the committee have all been part of the hockey community for a good number of years. We were really determined to make sure that we could get it reopened for season after it's closure last year," said Andrew McGregor.
McGregor is part of Rink Inc. and helps with fund raising and other projects for the arena.
Upgrades to the arena include a furnace replacement, new lighting, updates to the zamboni. A full-time manager as well as other staff members are currently being looked into as well.
"We've got some high hopes that we can really make the arena a place that people want to visit for public skating, rent for Birthday party, come and hang out, and have fun with your friends. We'll see how it goes," McGregor said.
A fundraiser will be held next Saturday the 25th at 6 PM. While in the arena, folks can participate in a shoot out, silent action, and so much more.
"There's been a tremendous amount of support from the community and we hope for a great crowd that night," said Matt Young, a hockey dad who understands the impact of Fenton Chester Arena.
"It's tremendously important to have this rink open. One of the biggest things is where we are and are area of the demographic."
