Champions For The First Time

li field hockey winBURLINGTON - The Lyndon Institute field hockey team were able to grab the Division Three championship title for the first time.

On Saturday LI traveled to the University of Vermont to face off against Stowe.

LI was the first to strike with an early goal by senior Falicia Lynch. The Vikings were able to extend that lead at the end of the first half with a goal from Haley Ott.

Stowe was unable to break the LI defense in the second half of the game resulting in a final score of 2 - 0 in favor of Lyndon Institute.

LI Coach Roxanne Courser said after the game, "Our defense hung right in there and kept them out. I thought the defense played extremely well today, but I thought the entire team came to play today as a team."

"None of the other teams expected it out of us," said LI player Alicia Brisson after the game. "I'm so excited, this has never happened before. So to be a part of this is just incredible."

Felicia Lynch, who scored the first goal, explained, "It was supposed to be rebuilding year for us, so our rebuilding year was one of our best years." Lynch continues, "I'm speechless right now because we've been working for this since my freshman year."

The LI field hockey team will see six of their championship teammates graduate including primary goalscorer Lynch.
