AROUND THE NEK - Peacham Elementary will begin the process of creating a bread oven for their school and their community. The project will begin May 22nd.
At Peacham Elementary they have put a lot of emphasis on having their students, and faculty involved within their community. An example was the most recent Town Meeting Day when the residents of Peacham were able to vote on whether to vote yes or no on their ballots to name the towns snow plows where each student in the school voted for the specific names, the vote was passed.
When it comes to the bread oven project he school doesn’t plan to just have volunteers within the community to help, their students will be lending a helping hand as well. Principal Sam McLeod stated “…the idea behind the oven is to create connections between our community and the school…” McLeod continued “one of our biggest visions is to educate the kids that they are apart of something bigger, part of the bigger community and engaged to giving back and connecting to the generations that have come before us.”
Once the oven is finished the school plans to educate their students in planting, taking care, and growing their own vegetables in their student gardens. Then using those home grown vegetables to prepare and make food with them. The school also plans to hold events such as pizza Fridays where everyone in the community will be welcomed.
