Phil Scott Appoints New State Attorney

jessica appointmentVERMONT- Last weekend, Governor Phil Scott appointed Jessica Zaleski as Caledonia County's latest State Attorney.

Since October, Zaleski was acting as the county's interim prosecutor after Lisa Warren, the former State Attorney for the county, was selected to be a Superior Court Judge.

Zaleski has been working in juvenile prosecution for Caledonia County as a deputy state attorney ever since 2018. She also worked previously as a public defender for several years in multiple counties in Vermont. She was given the most votes from the Caledonia County Republican Committee, among the candidates brought to Scott to chose from.

"We trust our prosecutors to ensure our communities are kept safe and criminals are brought to Justice. Jessica demonstrates a commitment to this work and to doing what's best for her community," Governor Scott said.

Senator Joe Benning was asked for his opinion on Zaleski's appointment.

"I think she's going to do a fine job. I think the Governor was interested in replacing Warren with another woman. [Zaleski] was a public defender before and seems to have tried to do a good job at that."

In years past, Zaleski worked as a public defender in Orange, Windham, and Caledonia counties.

"I'm pleased and honored by the Governor's decision. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Caledonia County in this role," Zaleski said in regards to her appointment.
