AROUND THE NEK - The Lyndonville Police are currently investigating an ongoing real estate scam in the area, which has effected local college students and residents looking for apartments in the area.
The apartments in question are being offered at extremely low rates, and the deals are made through a very dicey process. All communication between the seller takes place either over the phone or via email so there is no face to face meeting between the two parties.
The supposed “renters” require a deposit in exchange for the keys to be mailed to people inquiring about the apartment. The phone numbers that call the for the money call from a 702 area code, which is in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. Even though the area code says the calls are coming in from this country, many of them could actually be from outside of the United States.
Anyone with information, or with questions to find out if a seller is safe, is asked to contact the Lyndonville Police Department at (802)626-1271 or the town of Lyndon.
