House Burns Down in Wheelock

Wheelock- A house was destroyed on Tuesday at Sutton Road in Wheelock.

Sheffield-Wheelock firefighters were the first ones to get to the house. When they realized the fire was way too big, they called for more help. Some of the fire departments that helped were from Lyndon, Sutton, Glover, Danville, and Orleans. Peter Emerson, the person that lived at the house, was not at home when the fire started. His son was inside, but he managed to escape safely. Fire Chief for Sheffield-Wheelock stated the fire isn't considered suspicious and there was no need to call in an investigator. It is believed the fire started by a basement woodstove issue.

"I just know that it started in the basement of the house. It was a total loss," Lyndonville Fire Chief Jeff Corrow said.

Firefighters tried to go inside the end the fire there, but the fire was already too big for them. Tanker trucks had to be brought to put an end to the fire. It was a little bit of a struggle to get them to house due to roads being muddy.

"That fire was extremely hard to put out considering how big it was,'' Sheffield-Wheelock firefighter Brett Violett stated.

The fire was put out a little bit after six, but the Sheffiel-Wheelock Fire Department stayed there for a little bit longer to see if there were no flame-ups. Lyndon Rescue would end up going to check if there was anyone injured, but fortunately no one was hurt.
