St. Johnsbury Anthenaeum Surpasses $25,000 Goal For Children's Library Upgrade

The St. Johnsbury Antheanum met and surpassed their fundraising goal for their Children’s Library upgrades. Among smaller repairs inside the children’s library, the new upgrade would see a new sensory room, which would offer a quieter and isolated area for readers. A playground for the outdoor area just outside the children’s section. And of course new books to replace any outdated ones.

The upgrade was in motion after previous renovations done to the room, that saw a new coat of paint and lighting to highlight the murals that were created in the 1930’s

We spoke with Advancement Officer Scott Davis about the Children’s Library

“One of the things about this room that’s really interesting is, that was a part of the WPA project. They hired a local artist, Margaret Hamilton Lang, to do the murals, which are based on children’s books and local folklore.”

The fundraiser was started back in July, with mail sent out to all Athenaeum donors. The goal was set at 25,000 dollars. Thanks to friends of the St. Johnsbury Antheanum, it surpassed that number where it now sits at over 28,000.
