Pearl St. Sidewalk Construction in St. Johnsbury

The Concrete phase of the pearl st. sidewalk construction has nearly begun. Scheduled to start on tuesday but waylaid but weather, the pearl st. sidewalk construction would see a widened path that would stretch roughly 100 yards. 

 

 

 

The project was mentioned during public comment at a selectboard meeting on Tuesday. 

 

“Now we have the Public Works Department. And my question is, why are we subcontracting different companies to come in and fix our sidewalks when we have our whole public works department?” asked a concerned resident. 

 

Town Manager Chad Whitehead answered that question. 

 

“Contract that's going on right now where they’re doing the Pearl Street sidewalk? That's grant funded so we have to contract them. When we get grants to do a lot of projects, we can’t just do it ourselves. The idea of the grant is that it gets into the private sector” 

Construction will continue into next week
