history2St. Johnsbury - They say it takes a village, when Peggy Pearl received her award from the Vermont Historical Society she thanked everyone who works with her.

"I have a hard time accepting this award because its something that reflects dozens and dozens of people. This award couldn't have been receive by myself, if I didn't have those people behind me", Pearl said.

The award recognizes the exceptional work by individuals and community heritage organization throughout the state. Pearl says that it's more than just her who deserves the award.

She wants to stress that programs and historical centers are important.

"If you don't know where you came from, you can't appreciate where you are."

The center has celebrated it's one year anniversary a couple of months ago, and there is still a lot more Peggy sans to accomplish. She says they have a long way to go with some aspects of the center.

Most of the upgrades she has overseen were mainly to the garage. The building she says was in pretty good shape, so most of the work she has done this past year has been retrofitting cabinets and shelfs to fit the space she is currently in.

One thing that she says is always in the back of her mind is money.

"its not fun to talk but we have to have the conversations about endowments", Pearl says.

This award justifies how far she the St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center has come in just over a year and Pearl is looking forward to the challenges and new projects the future brings.
