According to police, the vehicle is a 2008 GMC truck. It was found laying on its passenger side in a small brook.

Before the police were able to make it to the scene, residents in the neighborhood rushed from inside their house to help the driver evacuate the vehicle. Susan Therrien witnessed the accident. She said she heard squealing and saw the truck fishtail into the ditch. “The guy kept yelling like, ‘Help me! Help me,’” explained Therrien.

Michael O’Brien was another witness to the accident, and he helped remove the driver from the truck. “He had gotten the door started, and I was trying to reach up but he lost the door and I got my fingers pinched. Then after that, he got the door opened and evacuated the vehicle,” O’Brien said as he recapped the event. O’Brien also mentioned that the driver asked him to call the police and took off to go see his father.

Therrien described the driver as very agitated. “He kind of just bounced back and forth a little bit and then he just took off,” according to Therrien.

Both Therrien and O’Brien said that the driver reeked of alcohol.

Wednesday morning, the driver’s father went to Ace’s Towing in Lyndonville to remove items left in the truck. The father reportedly said that he notified the police of the driver.

The identity of the driver is still unknown. Anyone with information pertaining to the accident is asked to call the Vermont State Police at (802)-748-3111.
