SYRIANthumbnailST. JOHNSBURY - On Thursday night, Saint Johnsbury Academy welcomed a special guest to speak to the public, Mohamad Hafez. Hafez, a Syrian Artist and Architect, talked to a full room of students and residents about the difficulties of being a refugee.

Talking about his experiences of having family members in refugee camps from across the globe - he has quite the message to describe.

“God has created us in different forms and different tribes and nations so that we embrace each other and work with each other. Our differences is not something to fear.” says Hafez.

When it comes to giving advice that Hafez would give to society today, he says, “All it takes is a meaningful conversation to get to know somebody… to feel better about that person.”

Friday night at 7pm at the Saint Johnsbury Athenaeum - Mohamad Hafez is planning on speaking once again about his message.

Hafez' message is described as, “On the receiving end as he would say, that broad brush description of what a Syrian is, a refugee is, what a Muslim is… he wants people to have a different opinion.” says Director of the Saint Johnsbury Athenaeum, Bob Joly.

Saint Johnsbury Athenaeum has had a series of presentations, exhibits and talks about Syria this year.

Mohamad Hafez’ exhibit is on display at the Athenaeum until Saturday October 1st.
