Meals on Wheels

MOWSt. Johnsbury- After a financial scare, St. Johnsbury Meals on Wheels will keep on rolling.  One of Meals on Wheals goals is to deliver meals to elderly people or induviduals who are unable to prepare warm food or have meals otherwise provided.

As you get older, St. Johnsbury Meals on Wheels Director, Diana Coburns, thinks that the little things aren't an easy task anymore, such as cooking.

"When you retire, somebody should be taking care of you." Coburns said.

That can be something as simple as a warm meal delivered straight to your door at home.  This routine has grown into something much more than just hot meals delivered to your door.  It means a lot more for the St. Johnsbury community.

"I've seen a lot of people grow once they become a client," Coburn said.  "They get up, they get dressed, they are looking for Meals on Wheels to come in for the food and somebody to see."

St. Johnsbury resident, Jimmy Cunavel, likes how every day its something delicious and new.

"Everyday it's something different, a different person comes to greet you and a different meal everyday." said Cunavel.

All this may not be happening if it wasn't for, Shelly Martin, an inspired community member.  Martin saw the message and it inspired the autosaving group at Mitsubishi.

"They saw the article and they had the money so they wrote a check."  Martin quoted.

This check helped Meals on Wheels keep rolling.  Delivering warm meals to those in need of company and a meal to eat.

"It'd be something that very good for the community to have," Martin said.  "I mean these meals are great!"

Stories like this is why the Meals on Wheels bus needs to stay a float.  Community members have said there are angels everywhere in the community and this is one story to figure out a way to keep a program like Meals on Wheels rolling.
