SAINT JOHNSBURY — Catastrophe was ablaze at the Saint Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center as firefighters cleared one of the center’s wings. At least, this is what it may have seemed like when the Saint Johnsbury Fire Department was conducting a disaster drill.
In order to complete the drill with as much real-life preparation, the simulation was completed with smoke, test dummy evacuations, alarms, and the full fire fighting gear. Saint Johnsbury Fire Department Captain Kevin Montminy said the drill doesn’t solely help the Fire Department, but it also helps the Health and Rehabilitation Center plan what to do in case of an emergency.
The simulation consisted of two firetrucks containing a crew of around a dozen firefighters. Montminy believes trainings like this help his fellow firefighters because, “It helps us prepare mentally and physically to have to do what we have to do to accomplish a task.”
Shawn Hallisey from the center said, they are very appreciative the Saint Johnsbury Fire Department provides training at their facility. Be on the lookout for this drill because the Fire Department holds this training at the Health and Rehabilitation Center each year at this location.
