ST. JOHNSBURY - Town officials are looking into removing parking meters from downtown St. Johnsbury. Town officials believe that kiosks could be the way to go. If the town wanted wanted to bring back the meters it could end up costing more then $ 25,000 to reinstall them.
The cause for construction around downtown St. Johnsbury is due to the Railroad Street enhancement project. The roads that are affected are between Portland Street and Eastern Avenue.
Town manager Chad White had this to say about the project: “Our parking meter heads they took off we’re storing them, but they had about $1,000 a piece to reinstall, well remove and reinstall. They were going to give us a credit so we’re just paying them to remove. So that’s where that comes from”.
There will be a meeting regarding the towns stance and position on what it should do this Monday.
